Calling All Ancestors! This is an event hosted by Brown Girl Rise at Alberta Park on Saturday October 24th. 12-4PM. Masks and social distancing required. Food provided. PLEASE BRING ANYTHING SACRED TO YOU TO ADD TO A GROUP ALTER.
.
When we say “our ancestors are behind us” what do we mean? How do we know? When do you feel connected to your ancestors?
.
Black & Brown youth, living under attack, have had our sacred connection to ancestors disrupted by racism, colonization, and erasure. We may have lost the knowledge of our ancestors but our ancestors have not lost us. Their care & dreams still hold us. We need their guidance and their protection. Reconnecting ancestral tradition is how we approach this work.
.
An intergenerational skill share for reclaiming and reconnecting to our ancestors. We’re inviting local activists, healers, light workers and the like to share their ancestral practices and how their connection to ancestors inform their activism. We have never fought alone. Black and Brown femmes have lived through and led us through revolutions. Our ancestors are behind us in every moment of this struggle.  We’ll be learning different traditions of connecting with our Black and Brown ancestors and centering youth and parents in these practices to strengthen the movement for Black Lives.
