Announcement about last week’s march.

MARCH WITH US AGAIN! Tues 8/25 we’ll gather with masks and social distancing at Sunnyside Environmental School by the basketball courts. There will be chalk drawing before the 6:30 speakers, starting at 6pm, so come early! Pdx Resistance Assistance will be there providing snacks and drinks- they will gratefully accept donations of prepackaged snacks and canned beverages.

Bring your masks, signs and chants!

Awakening Thunder, an Indigenous group committed to sharing their culture and honoring the land with drumming and song will open up the night.

We will have the privilege of hearing from Mingus Mapps. Mingus is a public servant and policy maker with a deep commitment to building a better, more equitable Portland. He is currently running for Portland City Commissioner, Position 4, at the November 3rd election. He is a political scientist and professor who has taught on subjects such as race relations and equity. He was the City’s Crime Prevention Coordinator as well as Supervisor for the City’s Neighborhood Association System. He believes strongly in bringing all voices to the table to solve our problems and challenges.

We will also have the honor of hearing from Mac Smiff. Mac is a tech analyst, journalist, concert producer, social justice activist, husband and father of four. As a steward of the local hip hop scene, he has spent years protesting police brutality and overreach toward Black and brown communities. This summer, he’s focused on the tangible goal of defunding the Portland police.

We also have the great fortune of hearing a performance from MadgesdiqCEG! Antoine T. Stoudamire & Claire Elizabeth Grace were born 23 years apart in Portland, Oregon. While both have thriving solo careers, together they make-up the group MadgesdiqCEG. Having met in 2017 at Madison High School during the Verselandia competition, they continued to follow one anothers creative careers. In July of 2019, Madgesdiq reached out for CEG’s vocals on “Water & Seed” & “Black Cave Vibration,” songs to be featured on his upcoming solo project produced by Gulls in “The Dojo.” The magic between them is instantly undeniable, and so began a series of recording sessions; the beauty of which is still unfolding.

Additionally, we will have the opportunity to hear from a wonderful youth speaker!
