MARCH WITH US AGAIN! Tues 8/4 we’ll gather with masks and social distancing at Sunnyside Environmental School by the basketball courts. There will be chalk drawing before the event, starting at 6pm, so come early! Pdx Resistance Assistance will be there providing snacks and drinks- they will gratefully accept donations of prepackaged snacks and canned beverages. Bring your masks, signs and chants!

This week’s event will be truly special, as we have the honor of multiple special guests.

Awakening Thunder, an Indigenous group committed to sharing their culture and honoring the land with drumming and song will open up the night.

We will hear from Pedro Anglada Cordero. Pedro is from Barceloneta, Borikén. He is a social worker in Portland OR. Pedro is anti-racist and fights against colonialism in all of its forms. His written work can be found in Latino Rebels, and 80 Grados.

We will also have a singing performance by Bevin Victoria Solmon. Bevin is from San Francisco, CA. Portland has been her home since 2015. Bevin is a mom, community activist, Super Hero maker at Hyatt Training Gym, a Dancer & Choreographer at Hybrid Fusion Belly Dance & Fitness, and a Singer you can find on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/album/7E3F2B276dD3P7iSvrE8aV?si=VQi8llAeTQ2XVDGsaTbMoA.

Our own Destiny Houston will be speaking and paying tribute to John Lewis. Destiny was born and raised in the Alberta neighborhood of Portland, OR. She is a mother, SMC Full Circle Doula, Flight Attendant for a major commercial airline, and Founder & Creative Director of Unapologetic Studios. Destiny is a Community Activist committed to planning events and using her voice to dismantle racism and systems of oppression.

Additionally, we will have the opportunity to hear from a wonderful kid speaker!

We will then do a short march down SE 34th Ave to Hawthorne, taking a pause on the sides of Hawthorne between SE 34th and SE 36th to chant and wave signs, before heading back to the park at Sunnyside.
